Div Com, DC remembers contribution of M Visvesvaraya

JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 15 (KNO) : Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre today celebrated 51st Engineers’ Day at its Institutional Complex, Channi Himmat, Jammu which was attended by large number of engineers from various departments and organizations.

Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma was the Chief Guest while Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar was the Guest of Honour on the occasion to commemorate the birth anniversary of the greatest engineer and Bharat Ratna, Sir M Visvesvaraya.

While speaking on the occasion, the Div Com highlighted the role of engineers and said the contribution of engineers in developing infrastructure, road, bridges and power projects in the state is outstanding. Engineers should focus on eco friendly products and get inspiration from the new ideas and technology happening around the world, he added. During his address, the DC said that the present era is the era of engineers and urged upon the young inspiring engineers to play a pivotal role for the development of state. At the outset, FIE, Chairman, Jammu Local Centre Er Ravi Chanyal presented the welcome address.

Rich tributes were paid to Sir M Visvesvaraya by Er Pooja Wazir, AMIE & Er Sachin Tickoo, MIE. They highlighted the lifelong achievements, sterling qualities, austerity, integrity, competence and discipline of the greatest icon of engineering profession. A documentary film on the life history and contribution of Sir M Visvesvaraya was also showcased to mark the day. Further, on the occasion, FIE, Retired Chief Engineer, Hydraulic Department, Er Narayan Mengi was honoured with D K Gupta Engineer of the year award for the year 2018 for his life time achievements to the engineering profession.

FIE, Retd. Chief Engineer & Former Chairman IEI Jammu Centre, Er H B Khajuria, was also honoured by the dignitraies with IEI Award for his outstanding services rendered to the engineering profession and to the Institution of Engineers (India). R L Sharma Memorial Gold Medal was presented to Er Vinod Kumar, MIE for presenting the Best Technical Paper during the year 2017-2018 and Rudra Bhagwati Silver Medal was presented to Er Sachin Tickoo, MIE for presenting 2nd best technical paper during the year 2017-2018. Div Com also honoured engineers with mementos for presenting two or more technical papers during the year 2017-2018.

On the occasion, the 16th Volume of quarterly News Letter of Jammu Local Centre was also released by the dignitaries in presence of Editorial Board. Chief Engineer PHE, Ashok Gandotra and Chief Engineer PWD Sudheer Shah were also present on the occasion.
